Common Terms
and Tips
Account - You will have your own account
on TaperOff.net. Your plan, sleep schedule, and notification information are stored
safely on our
server so nothing is kept on your computer at home or
work.
Account
Creation - The process of creating an account. From www.taperoff.net you will be taken through a
simple sign-up wizard to create your account.
Account
Status -
From the 'Home' tab you can easily check the staus of your account. Your plan
status shows whether you are in a plan, have completed your plan, or are waiting
for your plan to start. Your account status shows if you are using TaperOff.net as a
demo or have purchased access.
Demo - You can use TaperOff.net for 4 days
from the time you start your plan. Before your time has expired you will
need to purchase TaperOff.net to continue using it.
Cigarettes
Today - This is an estimate of how many cigarettes you are
scheduled to smoke today. It's based on your sleep schedule and how far along
in your plan you are.
Complete
Schedule - This is a schedule of all your cigarettes for the day. Cigarettes you
have smoked are shown "checked off". You can print this schedule to take with you,
or email it to yourself.
Countdown
Window - This window shows the number of minutes until your next cigarette. Other information may
be displayed here instead of a number. For example "??" means server
is unavailable try again later. The symbol "--" is displayed when your next
cigarette time has not been retrieved from the server yet. Just wait one
minute and the minutes will return. The number "0" is displayed for 1 minute after
you click the 'Ok' button.
Cutoff - This is the approximate number of
cigarettes you will smoke on the last day of your plan. It can vary by a couple
of cigarettes depending on how many hours you will be awake on your last day.
Some users only use TaperOff.net to reduce their smoking rather than quit and so
set a rather high number as their cutoff. For example some heavy smokers
need to reduce their smoking before they can
switch to another method they prefer like
patches.
End
Date - This
is the last day you will smoke. If you relapse, you can delete your plan and
then create a new plan.
Home - This tab
shows the current status of your account, plan, cigarette count, and
interval.
Notification -
When the time is reached for your next cigarette, you can be notified by email
or short message to your mobile phone. Notifications can easily
be turned on and off from the 'Home'
tab.
Plan - Your plan to quit smoking. Your plan
includes the number of cigarettes you smoked before you started to quit, the
date you started, the date you will quit, and the number of cigarettes you will
smoke on your last day. Your schedule is your time zone information and
sleeping schedule. When you delete your plan your schedule is not
affected.
Promotional Code - This can be advertised discount code, a code supplied by an
affiliated web site that is promoting TaperOff.net. It can also be a code given
to you by your company or
other organization if they have prepaid for you to use
TaperOff.net.
Refresh my
Status - Clicking 'Refresh my status' checks the server to see
when it last updated your smoking schedule. If you walk away from your computer
for some time, you can click 'Refresh my status' to bring your status up to
date.
Registered
User - As soon as you complete the sign-up wizard you are a
registered user of TaperOff.net. At first you will bein the demo mode until
you purchase access.
Scheduled Reduction - Gradually reducing your
smoking until you quit. For more information click the Overview
tab.
Schedule - Shows
every cigarette you will smoke on a particular
day. To see your schedule, click Home tab, then click
'Go!'
Start Date - The day you will begin your plan. Starting on this day all
your cigarettes will be scheduled. When you complete the sign-up wizard, if you
picked the day you
run the wizard as your Start Date you will begin tapering
off immediately.
Starting
Habit -
This is how many cigarettes you smoke now - before you begin to quit. You may
need to do some counting or thinking before you choose a starting habit number. Try to choose a number
that represents a typical day.
Time
Between Cigarettes - The number of
minutes between each cigarette for a particular day.
